REALTOR® Membership Information
The Triangle Commercial Association of Realtors (TCAR) is one of 1800 associations nationwide that comprise the National Association of Realtors. By joining TCAR, memberships are automatically extended to the National Association of Realtors and to the North Carolina Association of Realtors (NCAR). Each of these associations has unique membership privileges.
The principals of a real estate firm must first join the local REALTOR® association ( in our area this association is TCAR for brokers who are involved in commercial real estate) before any non-principal can join. Principals are defined as: sole proprietors; partners in a partnership; corporate officers or majority shareholders of a corporation; or branch office managers acting on behalf of the principal. Once the principal(s) decide to join the REALTOR® association, then all agents, brokers and appraisers that are licensed or affiliated with him or her have the option of also joining as members of the association.
It’s important to remember that not all real estate professionals are REALTORS®, a trademarked term which specifically identifies someone as a member of the National Association of REALTORS® who pledges to abide by a strict Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice.
